My daughter Olena found this baby octopus in a rock pool on Hua Hin beach.

It’s got nothing to do with Internet Marketing, but goes to prove that the world is full of suprises and wonderful things.

Hope you like it.

Are you having problems building your mailing list?

August 15th, 2009

This is definately a problem that I have and whilst I am a newbie, it would be nice to see the list grow.

On the webinar with Alex Jeffreys the other night, he started with a few words that struck a chord with me;

“Results and Excuses”

Alex suggested to “Write down all the reasons you’re not building a list and then erradicate them”.

So here goes …

  • Not enough traffic visiting my site.
  • The traffic is nearly all Alex Jeffreys students, who will already have the same eBook that I’m offering.
  • No unique free information products to entice people.
  • The appearance of my blog is not quite right.

Now I’ve taken the step of understanding what’s wrong, I can start to develop an action plan to erradicate each of the problems.

I’ll start today by building a project plan using mindmap and let you follow my progress.

Is anyone else in the same position?

Back from my vacation in Thailand

August 11th, 2009

Khao Thao 300x400Wow, what a fantastic country Thailand is.

I’d booked the vacation before signing up for the Marketing with Alex course, so I’ve got a lot of catching up to do now I’m back home.

But I’ve used my time to read Alex’s eBooks and listen to the recorded training from Internet cafe’s full of kids playing ‘shoot um up’ games.

This whole vacation has given me the motivation to make this Internet Marketing journey work.

I’ve seen the world I want to live in and this business can be run from anywhere in the world.

So now I’ve got to start taking action.

I’ll let you know how things go.

Why can’t I cook Thai food?

August 10th, 2009

When you go on holiday everything is different; the food, culture, the way people speak.

Everyday tasks that you have dealt with your whole life without thinking can become a challenge and a frustration.

You sit down in a restaurant, take a look at the menu and don’t recognise anything. Then when the waitress takes your order you end up pointing at your selection or pronouncing it wrong. Either way, often what arrives is not what you were expecting.

So what’s this got to do with Internet Marketing?

Well, having just come back from Thailand and being new to Internet Marketing, I know the frustration of getting the wrong food and not understanding how to generate traffic on the internet.

I love Thai food and wanted to know how to cook the dishes for myself. Before my holiday, I’d followed recipes off the internet and magazines, but it never tasted like the food cooked by a Thai, so what did I do? I found a Thai lady that could speak English and asked her to show me how to cook a few dishes which I recorded on my flip cam and will upload to share.

This is no different from trying to make money on the internet. You need someone that knows what they are doing to become your mentor and show you what they do. Once you’ve been shown and given the opportunities to ask questions as you go along, it’s down to taking action.

My mentor is Alex Jeffreys and as I put into action what he shows me, I’ll be able to help other Newbies and for a bit of fun, I’ll upload video clips of my cooking lessons in Thailand.

“Where did my traffic go?” Case study: Why You Should Blog

August 10th, 2009

Traffic Analysis - Where did my traffic go 500x118

I’ve just got back from vacation in Thailand, where I had to find Internet café to try and keep my Internet Marketing at least moving.

I was able to listen to some of Alex Jeffreys training recordings, but have really been out of the loop. But as Alex says, “you can always turn a negative into a positive”.

The way to get traffic is by providing visitors with useful and relevent information in the blog entries and helping others by posting advice on their sites.

I can actually prove with this mini case study, that as soon as you stop writing posts and helping others, your traffic dries up.

Google Analytics actually shows this happening for the period 3rd August – 8th August.

Now I’m back home, if I start blogging again and help others by posting on their blogs, I will be able to write a second article in a few days time showing traffic coming back to the site.

I’ll keep you posted.

Quick Review; ‘The definitive guide to Social Media Marketing’

July 28th, 2009

This eBook was given to me by Mike Dillard as a ‘thank you’ for sending in a video message about his Magnetic Sponsoring boot camp and it is written by three guys (Ferny Ceballos, Charles Helfin and Raymond Fong).

The book covers the reasons for Social Media Marketing, the SEO element and ways of using banner advertising. Raymond Fong advises that unless you have a sales funnel and products in place, his section is a little advanced. So as a newbie, I’ll have to come back to that section.

More Friends = More Money, but the initial section advise on the dangers of automation tools and artificially building a friend list. Whist it is possible to get thousands of friends very quickly, MySpace can and have wiped out accounts at a stroke when they think the system is being abused.

Google are also changing their algorithems to identify whether backlinks are being created by systems or real individuals.

But the beauty of Social Media Marketing is that by creating good content that people find helpful and want to read will result in your readers creating links to your blog by going viral.

So the suggested route to succeed with Social Media Marketing is to search out niche communities, to join and listen in order to find out what the communities are talking about, what problems they have  as a way of identifying subjects and content that the community actually want to read about.

By providing what the community wants, you can position yourself as a useful source which people will want to follow and share with others.

So the messages that I’ve picked up from the book so far;-

  • Identify Industry leaders for your niche.
  • Sign up for their RSS feeds in order to get notice on the current ideas they’re working on.
  • Add an RSS feed sign up option to my blog
  • Add a sign up form to capture visitors name and emails
  • Join four or five communities (Marketing with Alex being ideal for us newbies to help each other) ……. Mike Dillard has also created a network specifically for network marketers in which you can create your own niche and become a leader of that niche …. check out www.betternetworker.com  (I’ll pass on details of other networks as I find them if anyone is interested).
  • Start Cross Promoting; As your posts get pushed down the page, a good idea is to develop relationships with both leaders and newbies in order to share and promote their ideas. As relationships grow, they will share your ideas and over time your articles will reach a wider audience from going viral.
  • Document your Cross Promotion in order to create a case study. Whether the idea succeeds or fails, writing about the experience will help other to copy the idea if it works, or not bother if it turns out to be a waste of time.

I hope this short review was of interest. If anyone wants to work with me to cross promote ideas and write up a case study, we might have the start of our own eBook product.

Just let me know ……. Bye for now …. John

I’m currently reading ‘The definitive guide to Social Media Marketing’

July 25th, 2009

I recently submitted a review of ‘Magnetic Sponsoring’ on YouTube for Mike Dillard and as a gesture of thanks Mike sent me an eBook written by Ferny Ceballos, Charles Heflin and Raymond Fong; More Friends, More Money – The definitive guide to Social Media Marketing.

So far it seems to compliment Alex Jeffries message of building relationship and providing good content to a targeted market.

Has anyone else read this? ….. I’ll go through the book and pass on the tips and ideas.
