How I Created My First Product – Send2Kunaki.Com

November 15th, 2009 by John Leave a reply »

As a newbie to Internet Marketing, so many of the guru’s advise you on the importance of creating your own product.

My work as a computer programmer dried up with the recession back in October 2008, but I believed in myself and the importance of networking (both online and offline). It was during a networking meeting held by Business Link, that I got talking to a guy about Internet marketing.

We realised that whilst information products were often given away or sold for a few dollars, customers will often spend more on a physical product such as a CD or DVD. So buy replicating the same information in different formats, it is possible for any internet marketer to offer their clients a range of product choice and user an up sell or down sell to find the most suitabley priced product.

Product Creation

As many newbies do, I’d signed up for a number of courses from different people. One of my courses was “Micro Continuity” by Russel Brunson, where it was outlined how easy it can be to create a product. One suggestion was to sit down with someone who is an expert on a particular topic and interview them on video. The idea being that the video can be edited to become a DVD, you can strip the sound off and create an audio version to be sold as a CD or MP3 download and the transcript can be reproduced as a physical book or an eBook.

Kunaki.com

One of the resources that Russel Brunson gave was the name of a company that could manufacture and ship CD’s and DVD’s for $1.70 each, with no minimum order quantity. That company was Kunaki.com

Based in America, Kunaki is a machine rather than a traditional company, that specialises in the manufacture of digital products. It has been tailored to meet the requirements of independent retailers such as internet marketers of musicians wanting to create and distribute their own products.

The Problem with Kunaki ……

Whilst Kunaki is undoubtedly an fantastic service, it relies on their customers inputing the requirements of what product needs to be manufactured and where it needs to be shipped.

So the issues are;

  • An internet marketer needs to check for online sales and manually submit orders to Kunaki.com. (This is both time consuming for the internet marketer and can result in a time delay for the end client who has ordered through an online shopping cart).

The Solution

I’d read that Kunaki allowed customers to submit orders using XML.
As a programmer, I saw an opportunity to create a product that would benefit so many Internet Marketers. By creating a web service, a person could simply create an account that would store their login details and match the product they were selling with a Kunaki product id that needed to be manufactured. Using the point of Payment notification as the trigger to send the customers order requirements and shipping details directly to Kunaki.com

Creating Send2Kunaki.com

Old Send2Kunaki LogoAlthough a programmer, this project was touching on areas I had little experience in, so initially I put the project out to tender on a website called getacoder.com. It’s amazing how many people step forward and offer to work for you. But on this occasion, I met an American developer called Ian McManus at another networking event being held at the University  of Warwick by B2B.

This guy could see what I wanted, but also made so many suggestions of how the web service could develop into a much larger service to help people that wanted to make information products …. hopefully it will become a portal where visitors can get help with video production, video editing or graphics for their product.

Learning to Crawl

It was really important to remain focused on the core product, so Send2Kunaki was developed, tested and is now available for use.

To build awareness of Send2Kunaki and prove the software, for a limited period of time, I am making the web service available without charge in return for testimonials or feedback which can be entered on my BuzzHerd Forum.

If anyone would like to trial the Send2Kunaki web service please register here.

…. and if anyone has any help or advise on how I could take my product to market, please enter a comment below ….. I’m also interested in Joint Venturing with people on this.

    Hi John,

Your new product sounds amazing. I’m really impressed with your skills. I wish I could create something like that.

I’m sure there will be people wanting to use it.

I would contact the people who took the Russel Brunson course and even himself.

I would contact guys like Ewen Chia who so actively promotes Russel.

Any internet marketing guru who is known to sell physical products like John Reese.

I hope this helps even though you’ve likely thought of this yourself.

I’m way too far away from wanting to sell physical products yet. I need to create digital ones first.

I really hope that this works out for you.

      Hey Vance,

Thanks for your ideas and I will try and make contact with all the names you suggested …. great input.

I’ve tried to go down the software route to try and combine my old background of programming with my new internet based life.

      Stick with it Vance

    Hey John,

So I see you’re a programmer. I did programming for a living for a few years pre-Y2K as a contractor but it was just too competitive for me and to be honest I just couldn’t keep up with the young kids.

I think your new product sounds great but unfortunately for me I don’t have the need for it right now or I’d love to try it out and give you feedback on it.

I’ll have to keep a look out for any new software products you come out with and see if I can be of any help with those.

    Later,

      Hi Jeff,

Thanks for popping by to give me your input, much appreciated.

Something which might be of interest to you is a new Social networking site called BuzzHerd. I notice your latest blog is all about one way backlinks. If you were to join Buzzherd (which is free) and create a Herd for your business, you are able to invite people you know to follow you. Each person that joins your herd will create a one way backlink to your business website which can only help with your Google Ranking.

Give me a shout if you want any more information on this or visit http://www.buzzherd.com

    fantastic work John!
I suggest you definitely sell on your Russell IM forum
as his micro continuity is all about giving out CDs

if that is smooth and successful, next time.. you never know, you can approach some medium size business that still do massive CD production. But no one really wants to carry an arm of non core business activities. So you can be their outsource fulfillment arm.

      Hi Shirley,

Excellent idea about posting on Russell Brunson’s Forum. As you say, his micro continuity scheme is all about selling physical products.
Sometimes when you are developing an idea, you are too close and I had missed this opportunity. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

    Hi John,

Congrats on creating your first product, it sounds like a great idea and I think you’ll go far.

Unfortunately I don’t really have a need to use kunaki at this stage in my business, otherwise I would of definitely tried it out for you.

I’m sure you’ll get plenty of testers for it, it’s just a case of seeking out those who already have products, that have potential to be turned into physical products, and home study courses.

I’ll try and pop back over soon and see how you’re getting on with it.

    Take care,

    Paul.
