Are you having problems building your mailing list?

August 15th, 2009

This is definately a problem that I have and whilst I am a newbie, it would be nice to see the list grow.

On the webinar with Alex Jeffreys the other night, he started with a few words that struck a chord with me;

“Results and Excuses”

Alex suggested to “Write down all the reasons you’re not building a list and then erradicate them”.

So here goes …

  • Not enough traffic visiting my site.
  • The traffic is nearly all Alex Jeffreys students, who will already have the same eBook that I’m offering.
  • No unique free information products to entice people.
  • The appearance of my blog is not quite right.

Now I’ve taken the step of understanding what’s wrong, I can start to develop an action plan to erradicate each of the problems.

I’ll start today by building a project plan using mindmap and let you follow my progress.

Is anyone else in the same position?

Why can’t I cook Thai food?

August 10th, 2009

When you go on holiday everything is different; the food, culture, the way people speak.

Everyday tasks that you have dealt with your whole life without thinking can become a challenge and a frustration.

You sit down in a restaurant, take a look at the menu and don’t recognise anything. Then when the waitress takes your order you end up pointing at your selection or pronouncing it wrong. Either way, often what arrives is not what you were expecting.

So what’s this got to do with Internet Marketing?

Well, having just come back from Thailand and being new to Internet Marketing, I know the frustration of getting the wrong food and not understanding how to generate traffic on the internet.

I love Thai food and wanted to know how to cook the dishes for myself. Before my holiday, I’d followed recipes off the internet and magazines, but it never tasted like the food cooked by a Thai, so what did I do? I found a Thai lady that could speak English and asked her to show me how to cook a few dishes which I recorded on my flip cam and will upload to share.

This is no different from trying to make money on the internet. You need someone that knows what they are doing to become your mentor and show you what they do. Once you’ve been shown and given the opportunities to ask questions as you go along, it’s down to taking action.

My mentor is Alex Jeffreys and as I put into action what he shows me, I’ll be able to help other Newbies and for a bit of fun, I’ll upload video clips of my cooking lessons in Thailand.

The Gurus Dream – Your blog is like an Oil Rig

August 2nd, 2009

Whilst on vacation, I can’t get much access to the Internet, by it has given me the opportunity to read the excellent eBook by Alex Jeffreys called “The Gurus Dream” in which Alex describes how some of the best fishing can happen around man made structures. I thought it was worth sharing Alex’s analogy;-

When you build your blog platform with a good foundation (your oil rig) and add content to the blog (your algae), this will attract people to start commenting on your content (clams).

Because of your third party comments (from your clams), you’ll soon have customers (fish) swimming around your blog (oil rig) wondering why it’s so active and what is the benefit for them to be there.

… and if you have a free eBook (your fishing hook), then you have a good chance to catch some fish.

Once you learn how to catch small fish, it’s only a matter of time before you have enough knowledge to catch bigger fish.

Thanks Alex!     ……. Happy Fishing

My first taste of Marketing with Alex

July 7th, 2009

I’ve signed up to be mentored by Alex Jeffreys. I didn’t go looking for it, the opportunity arose from being on Mike Filsane’s list having bought Launch Tree.

I watched the video pitch and started to take notice, maybe Alex is the one to get me out of my current financial mess. It’s been nearly 8 months since I last worked as a computer programmer, yet I’m still sinking my time and savings into internet schemes that haven’t earned me a penny.

The seminar started (for me) at 11pm titled “Forward to Basics” and to be honest, what we were being told wasn’t rocket science,  just common sense about planning projects and identifying the key tasks needed to build an internet marketing business. But then Alex touched on how people actually spend their time on non productive aimless tasks.

Whilst the message was simple, was I doing it in my life?  No!

Was I making money? No!

Did I have a direction? No!

So this Ah Ha moment at 2am on 7th July is something I have to take action on, otherwise I’ll continue to fail.
