It isn’t really viable for newbie Internet marketers to compete for the most popular key words through pay per click campaigns due to the cost, but we can compete by being smarter in our keyword research and utilizing long tail keywords.
By long tail keywords, I mean, either phrases that people are currently searching for, or very detailed searches such as an exact product id.
I’d like to share some advice from Andrew Hansen of Firepow, on his technique for
Google keyword research.
Using Googles keyword tool: https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal
For the type of niche you’re looking at, start off by identify the main key word
(e.g. Snoring).
The idea is to identify words and phrases that people are currently searching for, that you could use and add content to.
So look for words with 500 – 5000 hits per month.
Once the keywords list appears, double click on the column called ‘Advertiser Competition’.
This sorts the phrases into a list, with the less competitive keywords at the top.
This technique helps to spot words and phrases with relatively high actual search levels,
that aren’t currently being bought in pay per click campaigns.
If the technique above doesn’t give you enough ideas, go back to the Google search page and type in your primary niche keyword or phrase e.g. stop snoring (don’t use quotes).
Copy the first non sponsored URL
Then return to the Google Keywords Tool and select the website content radio button.
Paste the url into the webpage url box it prompts you with.
The search results that are returned will provide you with keyword ideas based on the keywords that site uses, which you know works because it is in position 1 on the first page of Google for your niche keyword.
Once you’ve researched your keywords and found long tail words that have traffic, it’s down to the graft of creating content on articles, blogs and YouTube videos ensuring those key phrases are included in titles and content.
Day #4
Two videos posted to You Tube using long tail key words ‘limo hire coventry’ and within a few hours both are on the fist page of Google.
Sure you have to select the video option, but the first video has had 50 hits in only 24 hours, so video is an important part of a marketing strategy.
Now I have to keep writing articles, creating backlinks and optimizing the website to get that onto the the first data page.

Day #2 of my case study to see if I can promote a limousine hire company to page 1 on Google for specific key words.
Today I’ve been concentrating on backlinks and have created a Squidoo site /black_hummer which reviews the history of the Hummer, from military vehicle to iconic luxury transport.
If anyone gets a moment, I’d appreciate it if they could visit and rate the site for me.

I’ve also started article writing, with the first one, ‘Want to hire a limo in Coventry’, published on Go Articles and bookmarked using Dropjack.
Pretty time consuming, but part of my plan.
I’m currently trying to improve the Google ranking for my profit pulling platform http://www.listbuilding-for-newbies.com
I’ve played around with tags for keywords, title, description and have managed to get to the 21st position for the phrase ‘list building for newbies’.
To improve this ranking, I want to create a back link which I can create myself by building a Squidoo lens on the eBook ‘List building with Alex’.
This gave me an ideal opportunity to work my way through and review the free step by step guide to creating a Squidoo lens, written by Pot Pai Girl.
Although 55 pages long, I can see myself using this reference guide a lot, so I’ve printed off the whole eBook.
The layout and content is really easy to follow and it took me around an hour to create a Squidoo account, decide on a url http://www.squidoo.com/listbuilding_with_alex build and publish my first lens.
Having created the lens, (which includes a link to my profit pulling platform), the guide outlines how you can update your profile to include details about yourself and a link back to your blog. (In doing so creating a blog back link).
The next step is to get the Squidoo site indexed by Google and hopefully by writing this blog post, Google spiders will crawl my blog and find a reference to the Squidoo site and generate an Index.

Things aren’t going as well as I’d hoped with the list building, but I’m a newbie that’s not going to give up and today I want to let you know what I’m doing to get things back on track;-
Alex Jeffreys says if you have a problem, you need to ask yourself a series of questions to find a solution.
My current problem is that nobody has signed up for the eBook on my “Profit Pulling Platform”.
So I asked myself why?
These are my reasons / excuses that I need to resolve;
- Visitors to my blog are primarily Alex Jeffreys students that are blog hopping; as such they have an identical product.
- My PPP is ranking on the third page of Google, so nobody is finding it.
I needed to find a product that visitors might want.
Well everyone wants to generate traffic and one of the ways to generate traffic if by creating a back link from a Squidoo lens.
Pot Pie Girl is a work at home mom that has become an authority figure in affiliate marketing ‘Clickbank’ products through the creation of Squidoo lenses.
She has written a fantastic Free 55 page step by step guide called ‘Squidoo 101′ which teaches newbies how to create a Squidoo Lens.
Contents include:
- Creating a Squidoo account
- Avoiding the ‘Magic Builder’ (an easy way to control how you build your lens)
- Adding content
- Adding links
- Publishing your lens
- Adding Pay Pal
I’m working my way through the guide now and will report back on how I get on both with the guide and the effectiveness of Squidoo for my Internet Marketing.
Now onto my other problem: How to improve your Google page ranking.
I decided to check out the what other students were doing on Google to see if I could pick up any tips.
When I searched on ‘List building with Alex’ I found a former AJ student and on their blog was an article explaining who won Alex’s Google Ranking competition.
The winner was Jim Gallagher from Ireland and on his blog, Jim outlined the importance of Google Page Ranking and by using a Page Rank Checker before posting on other sites how he was able to get a page ranking within 1 month.
Below is an extract from Jim Gallagher’s post, after winning the Alex Jeffreys traffic challenge with 41,152 visitors in 18 days (which led to 778 sign ups).
When posting your websites to a blog or website, try to find sites with a Google page rank.
Sites with a good Google page rank get crawled by the Google spider more often.
The higher the rank the more they get spidered, and the quicker they get indexed on Google.
So if your site URL is on one of these sites you will be indexed on Google quicker.
It will also help you to get a Google page rank of your own fairly quick.
This blog was set up on 5 December 2008 it was a new site with a new domain name.
By 3 January 2009 it had a Google page rank of 2. This now means I get spidered by Google many times a day, so new content will be indexed fairly quickly by Google.
You can check out websites Google page ranking on numerous Web resource sites.
There are many of these, below is a link to one, just enter the URL name and it will give you the rank for that site.
PR Checker is a Free tool to check Google Page rankings at any web site.
Needless to say, when I checked my blog, the page rank was zero.
Well, lets see what happens if I follow Jim’s advice.
